Social engineering is the study of how people can be manipulated by taking advantage of human nature. This is typically accomplished by leveraging either fear, authority, greed, or empathy to manipulate someone to a threat actor’s purpose. In the cyber world, this can come in any number of shapes and forms, from passive monitoring and shoulder surfing to phishing and spear phishing.
CyberTech presentations cover multiple common methods of social engineering, how to recognize if someone is using these methods against you, and how to protect yourself against these methods. Some of the methods covered include phishing and shoulder surfing. These slides are presented in conjunction with 2 demonstrations showing the capabilities of Rubber Ducky USBs and the Social Engineering Toolkit.
